Hound Labs Showcases HOUND® CANNABIS BREATHALYZER in Detroit, Michigan

Product Roadshow Highlights Breath Testing Advantages as Company Ramps Sales Across U.S.

FREMONT, Calif. – May 14, 2024 – Hound Labs, Inc., developers of advanced breath testing technologies, announces that it recently hosted its first product roadshow event in Detroit, Michigan. Company representatives conducted on-site demonstrations of the HOUND® CANNABIS BREATHALYZER1 and engaged with employers, clinics, and safety, legal, and human resources professionals interested in implementing recent use breath testing to help improve their drug testing program outcomes. The widespread interest in this event confirms Michigan employers are facing hiring and retention challenges related to cannabis legalization and are searching for a cannabis testing solution to help detect and deter workday use.

“Showcasing the Hound® system to a room full of interested employers gave a new perspective on the value of our solution. As a Michigan native, it was especially gratifying to see so many employers from my home state looking for a solution that supports their drug testing needs while also protecting their employees’ personal choices away from work.”

Vince Bonomo, Senior Customer Success Manager at Hound Labs

The HOUND® CANNABIS BREATHALYZER is the first breath test designed for the era of cannabis legalization, isolating detection to within 2-3 hours of the test and aligning with use that occurred during or shortly before the workday. This is a notable change from traditional drug tests such as oral fluid, urine, and hair that may detect THC use for hours, days, or even weeks after a person last used cannabis.

With its storied history in automotive, manufacturing, and other safety-sensitive industries, Michigan employers and unions are uniquely familiar with the need to balance safe workplaces with employee fairness. However, widespread cannabis legalization is necessitating a change in how employers create and enforce drug testing policies. Post-accident positives for cannabis have steadily climbed in the U.S. since the first states legalized recreational cannabis in 20122, linking increased access to increased risk. Michigan legalized recreational marijuana in 2018, and its most populous neighbor, Illinois, followed suit in 2020, intensifying the need for a solution that enables continued testing and protects employees’ legal, off-duty choices.

“We’ve had many conversations with Michigan employers since we brought our cannabis breath testing solution to market last year. It’s clear they are struggling with how to balance safety within their workplaces and fairness for their employees. Our growing customer base in Michigan indicates a strong need for our solution, and we are thrilled with the engagement we had at our event in Detroit. We look forward to holding similar events in other cities in the future.”

Sammie Dabbs, Chief Revenue Officer at Hound Labs

Additionally, Concentra®, a leading provider of occupational health and other wellness services, will be rolling out the solution at 19 medical centers across Michigan later this month, providing even more options for employers throughout the state to leverage recent use cannabis testing.
